I think it is a scene from Kurukshetra Sangram (the Great War between Pandavas and Kauravas) – i am guessing this particular scene captures Pandavas crying over Abhimanyu’s dead body. Abhimanyu is the son of Arjuna and Subhadra (Krishna’s own sister) an excellent warrior – Kauravas use many illegal means to capture and kill him.

The child is actually, Yamaraja, the lord of death. He is coming to talk to the ladies lamenting over their husband, King Suyagna, who died in a battle there. The story is found in Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 7, Chapter 2, beginning with verse 27: http://vedabase.net/sb/7/2/en2
